PUTRAJAYA, Oct 19 – Tomorrow’s Leaders Summit was invited to participate in the Forum on Citizenship in the Age of the Internet. The Forum was organized by the Perdana Leadership Foundation and Maybank Foundation as part of the “Shaping the Nation: Our Rights and Responsibilities as a Malaysian Citizen” Essay competition 2012.
Attended by over 200 young leaders, the half day Forum discussed amongst other issues education and the involvement of the youth in the education process. This will be further discussed during Tomorrow’s Leaders Summit as countries look at improving education and addressing youth unemployment issues which have gripped developed and developing countries alike.
Malaysia currently has 71,600 unemployed fresh graduates, while the overall economy is growing at 5.5% percent annually, with unemployment at only 3.2%. “Youth are looking for increased involvement in the economic growth of the economy but how employable and their industry relevance for many of them still needs to be addressed. Moving forward all parties need to understand this and the opportunity it represents” stated Nordin Abdullah, Organising Chairman of Tomorrow’s Leaders Summit, after attending the Forum.
Speakers included, YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia; Anas Zubedy, Managing Director, Zubedy (M) Sdn Bhd; Tricia Yeoh, Former Director of CPPs, ASLI and Business Development Director of Dynamic Search; and Cheah Kar Fei, Former President of AIESEC. YBhg Tan Sri Nik Mohamed Nik Yaacob, Executive Director of Perdana Leadership Foundation delivered the welcome remarks.
